Hello
We are a new lab located in Magee-Womens Research Institute focused on improving maternal-neonatal health. Our lab believes that by taking a multi-tier approach we will break barriers in traditional research in this area and identify new targets and mechanisms of disease. We STRONGLY believe in collaboration. Please see below to links to our collaborators.
My Story
I am a clinician with expertise in maternal-fetal medicine and reproductive infectious diseases. I work with patients with high-risk pregnancies and as a clinician am frustrated by the lack of diagnostic prediction tools and treatment options for my patients. Maternal morbidity and mortality remain unacceptably high! My background in graduate school has allowed me to apply my clinical knowledge to basic and clinical research to try to address these issues.
In particular, pregnancy is a period of unique immune regulation: The entire maternal immune system becomes altered and this is largely uncharacterized. These alterations are regulated across pregnancy based on time and healthy regulation is critical for maternal and neonatal health. Yet, major knowledge gaps exist on this processes, and how this contributes to healthy and pathologic pregnancy. We have taken a multidisciplinary approach utilizing and generating robust clinical datasets, basic science models, collaborations with neonatologists, behavioral scientists, basic scientists and bioinformatics science to approach key knowledge gaps.
